Introduction

Patchwerk is the first boss in the Construct Quarter. This fight is considered the gear check of naxxramas, however, it is not as demanding as the early raid bosses in TBC. This fight is mostly the same in normal and heroic, the only difference is how hard patchwerk hits. It is also recommended you use 2 Hateful Strike tanks in Heroic to avoid losing any melee DPS.

Heroic Raid (25 man)

Abilities

Patchwerk has about 13,000,000 hit points. His regular melee hits a blue/epic tank for ~8000.

  • Hateful Strike - Patchwerk will use this ability at a 1 second frequency on the target in melee range with the highest HP who is also one of the top three on Patchwerk’s aggro list. Cannot be used on the main tank unless there are no other targets. Does 53625 to 56375 raw physical damage which can mitigated by armor and parried/dodged. This is about 18-20k damage on a partially Naxxramas geared tank. This ability will add threat to the three most threatening on Patchwerk’s aggro list.
  • Frenzy - At 5% HP Patchwerk will gain 25% increased Physical damage (including Hateful Strike) and 40% increased melee haste.
  • Berserk - After 6 minutes of combat Patchwerk will Berserker enrage, increasing all damage done by 1000%.

Raid Setup

3 Tanks

15 DPS

7 Healers

Strategy

All tanks should stay together for the pull and no one should be standing in Patchwerk’s path to the tanks. Once the pull is made, the main tank and 2 Hateful Strike tanks should start building agro. It is recommended that your 2 highest armor tanks be the hateful tanks. This is because the ability cannot crit and it is physical damage.

DPS should hold off for the first few seconds of the fight to allow Patchwerk to pick his hateful strike tanks. After that though, they can pretty much go all out for the rest of the fight. It is still important to keep an eye on your threat, but it isn’t as easy to pull agro here since Patchwerk is adding threat to the tanks as he hits them. The raid as a whole need to do ~36k DPS in order to kill patchwerk before his enrage timer. This means each dps needs to put out an average of 2.1k (assuming tanks are doing ~1.5k each).

This is a healing and mana intensive fight. There should be 2 healers assigned to each Hateful Strike tank and 2 to the main tank, with 1 healer helping out where needed. Healers will never have to heal a DPS class as there will only be 3 people taking damage during this fight. Tanks need to be topped off ASAP, Patchwerk will start Hateful Striking other melee if a tank dies or isn’t healed fast enough.

Positioning on this fight is not a big deal. You do not need to stand exactly where this guide tells you to because Patchwerk only does melee damage and hateful strikes. A good trick is to keep your healers and range dps well spread out at 5% in case you lose a tank. This way the remaining DPS can kill patchwerk while hes running across the room to 1 shot people.

If your tanks are not in full epics/naxx gear, make sure the raid is provided with all armor bonus buffs. Shamans can drop a Stoneskin Totem, paladins can put on Devotion Aura, Druids with their paw, etc. This will make a HUGE difference and make healing much easier.

Normal Raid (10 man)

Abilities

Patchwerk has about 4,320,000 hit points. His regular melee hits plate for about ~4,000.

  • Hateful Strike - Patchwerk will use this ability at a 1 second frequency on the target in melee range with the highest HP who is also one of the top three on Patchwerk’s aggro list. Cannot be used on the main tank unless there are no other targets. Does 19975 to 27025 raw physical damage which can mitigated by armor and parried/dodged. This is about 7k damage on a partially Naxxramas geared tank. This ability will add threat to the 2 highest on the threat list.

Raid Setup

2 Tanks

5 DPS

3 Healers

Strategy

Both tanks should stay together for the pull and no one should be standing in Patchwerk’s path to the tanks. Once the pull is made, the main tank and the Hateful Strike tank should start building agro. It is recommended that your highest armor tank be the Hateful Strike tank. This is because the ability cannot crit and it is physical damage, so the higher the armor, the better.

The raid as a whole need to do ~12k DPS in order to kill patchwerk before his enrage timer. This means each dps class needs to put out an average of 1.8k (assuming tanks are doing ~1.5k each).

This is a healing and mana intensive fight. There should be 1 healer assigned to the Hateful Strike tank and 1 to the main tank, with 1 healer helping out where needed. In most cases, the Hateful Strike tank will take more damage by the time the fight ends, so that should be the floating healers priority. Healers will never have to heal a DPS class as there will only be 2 people taking damage during this fight. If you lose a tank, the only way to keep the fight going is to overheal the remaining tank as they will be taking Hateful Strikes on top of Patchwerks regular melee hits. If the tanks health drops below the melee that is second on threat, they are going to get 1 shot.

Also, at 5% make sure all tanks are using their cooldowns, trinkets, etc. It is very easy to lose a tank during the last few % and 1% wipes on Patchwerk are not unheard of.
